International Student Bla Bla
I got an amazing opportunity today to shoot landscape in Asia for 2 months with full budget. It is amazing for newly grad student to get this job right?
Well, I have to politely denied it only because I’m on OPT. If I leave US, it’s not guaranteed that I will be able to come back in. So it means I might not deliver the job and I might not come back in US anymore.
Well, it is not the first time tho. In the past year I’ve been offered a job as a Media Producer , another job as an Art Director. The person who interviewed me accept me without knowing I will be rejected in the HR process. Because I don’t have citizenship, my working permit didn’t mean anything for them.
Well, why am I telling this?
I’m sure I’m not the only one facing this tragedy, I know how it feels when you are an international student hoping to get a job after graduation. It is not fun leaving home and studying in US when English is your second language. Pushing all your ability and energy to get the best portfolio you can and got rejected not because of your work, but your status.
Here is the point, I figure out being rejected should not be painful. I was rejected just because of my international student status. I was not rejected because I can’t work.
If anyone have the same experience like me. Please think positively that at least you have been offered a decent job. Someone accepted your work and you should be proud of it.
I hope my experience could apply to someone who read this and make them smile just like me.
Cheers.
