Just got Fuji X100 today.

After reading lots of review and testing raw files. I was quite curious how a 2010 APS-C sensor could compare to 2006 Full Frame. So I did a comparison between Fuji X100 and good old Canon 5D with EF 35 f1.4L, both are at around 12 MP. This bring me to “Nerd Mode” to make sure my tools are ready to use.

I’ve tried my own test with Olympus E-PL1 and Panosonic 20mm f 1.7 and results doesn’t make me happy. It is a good camera but it is not usable for serious file quality especially for gettyimages or stock photo.

This is not a scientific test! It is my own test just to see should I keep X100 as another working camera or should I play with it and sell it for something more useful because $1,200 is not a little money for me.

Well, the test show Fuji’s RAF file is around 20MB for 12 MP, compare to 5D CR2 file at only 12-15MB. Is this mean Canon Raw files are compressed? I don’t know —”, but what I see is I can pull the details out of the shadows in Fuji’s raw file easily with out making noise.

I’m quite impressed with the file quality as it is comparable to Full Frame SLR at ISO3200. The sample images here were shot at F8 1/15 Sec on Tripod.

I’ll show more images from real life test later.
